The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator is equipped with a all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator at this price that includes Wi-Fi as well as app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app is available for iOS and Android devices and allows you to control your refrigerator from anywhere in the globe. It also has many options for customization. The ice maker we tested is one of the most efficient and produces pyramid shaped ice using minimal water. This fridge is perfect for a single household or a kitchenette with an elegant design and top of the best food preservation. This refrigerator was rated as the most efficient in our Refrigerators Test for several reasons. Its freezer temperatures remained constant at just above 0° Fahrenheit and never changed by more than a fraction, this is crucial to avoid freezer burn. The refrigerator section of the refrigerator also performed well. It reached the temperature it was set within a matter of hours, and remained at that temperature throughout our testing. The fridge is built with an ordinary French door layout, with two rows of shelving with spill-capture and a set of crisper drawers. The upper right shelf can be folded down to give tall items more headroom. There's also a full-width drawer to store food items and an internal water dispenser. This refrigerator has a freezer with an ice maker, making it simple to transfer ice when needed. The freezer also features thoughtful design features, such as sliding drawers that allow you to organize your items. It also has a large container to store frozen food items, and a separate container for ice. Smart InstaView panel is another cool feature of the refrigerator. You can control the temperature, lighting and more of your fridge from your smartphone. It's an easy way to monitor your refrigerator and control it, especially when away from home. The Smart InstaView feature is neat however it doesn't enhance the efficiency of the fridge. This fridge took longer to chill food and defrost it than the other fridges we test. This could be due to the larger capacity. The other issue we have with this refrigerator is its doors. They have sunken handles on the front that allow smaller people to open them from the bottom, but they're not easy for taller people to pull closed without slamming the doors. It would have been much better if they had front-mounted handle. The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent choice for those who want to combine the look and feel of a French-door refrigerator with more efficient design. It has a capacity that is superior to counter-depth models, and it cools evenly. It's also less expensive than the best counter depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which makes it a great option. Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a good option if you want a French-door fridge that doesn't break the budget. It's a minimalist design that's not as visually striking like some of the competitors however it comes with enough features to make it a solid pick. Its most notable feature is the adjustable temperature drawer, which helps keep foods such as meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge water dispenser, as well as an excellent Ice machine that is fast. Another great feature is the “Chill Drawer” that sits over the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you redirect a portion of the fridge's cooling power directly to this area, so you can put away food items that need extra attention. You can adjust this feature by using the slider located on the outside of the drawer. You can also adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I have found that the general settings are more effective than the specific ones. During my tests, I discovered that the temperatures in the refrigerator were fairly consistent across various parts of the fridge. The temperatures in the top, bottom and middle of the refrigerator didn't vary much from 38 degrees. This is a solid performance, but it isn't quite at the top of our rankings. This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also pair this fridge with a smart thermometer to get more precise readings of your fridge's internal temperature. The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of grey-bodied stainless that has a “smudge proof” finish. It blocks streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've tried.
